CCTV & Security System Installation

Cameras are only as good as where they're pointed and how they're wired. Badly sited CCTV gives you hours of footage of a hedge; well sited CCTV gives you the approach, the door and the driveway.

Getting the coverage right

We'd rather fit fewer cameras in the right places than more in the wrong ones. Before anything goes up we look at how someone would actually approach the property, where the useful choke points are, and where you need identification rather than just movement.

Cable runs are planned so they're not left dangling or accessible from outside, and the recorder goes somewhere sensible rather than in the first cupboard by the door.

Security lighting

Lighting and cameras work together - most cameras produce much better images with some light, and a well-placed PIR floodlight is a deterrent in its own right. We fit security lighting on its own switching so you're not stuck with it triggering all night, and aim it to cover the ground rather than dazzle the camera or annoy the neighbours.

Cameras and the law

If your cameras capture anything beyond your own property boundary - a pavement, a shared drive, a neighbour's garden - you take on data-protection responsibilities for that footage. For business premises the obligations are more involved again.

We're electricians rather than data-protection advisers, so we'll site cameras sensibly and flag where coverage looks likely to raise the question. The Information Commissioner's Office publishes plain-English guidance on domestic CCTV, and it's worth ten minutes of your time before you decide where cameras point.

Common questions

Can I view the cameras when I'm not at home?

Most current systems support remote viewing on a phone app over your internet connection. Tell us that's what you want and we'll make sure what goes in supports it and is set up before we leave.

Wired or wireless?

Wired is more reliable and doesn't need batteries changing or fight with your Wi-Fi, and if we're already running cable it's often the sensible choice. Wireless can make sense where running a cable would mean serious disruption. We'll give you the honest trade-off for your property.

Do you do commercial premises as well as homes?

Yes - we cover domestic, commercial and industrial work. Commercial installations usually need more thought about coverage, retention and signage, so it's worth a proper site visit.
