The housing here keeps us busy

Bedford's housing stock is unusually mixed, and the electrical work follows it. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre, Queen's Park and Castle Road are the properties where we most often find installations at the end of their life - lighting circuits with no earth, fuse boxes with no RCD protection, and decades of alterations layered on top of each other. That's rewire, consumer unit and EICR territory.

Then there's the newer end - Wixams, Great Denham and the estates out towards Biddenham - where the wiring is sound and the calls are about adding things: EV charge points, garden and garage power, home office circuits and media walls.

Landlords and rented property

Bedford has a large private rented sector, and every one of those tenancies needs an EICR at least every five years under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
